First time leading a ride - and it was a beautiful day

Today, a Tuesday, we started out with 18 riders on a grey Bay Area summer morning.  The scheduled route was up to Grizzly via Euclid.

Because we are in the midst of changing the ride profile types (we are switching the order of our A-B-C-D rankings soon), I listed the ride as a "B" ride (formerly known as a "C" ride...following all this?), and two riders who were really excited for a more casual ride on a Tuesday joined up with us.  They rode with us until we got to Tunnel road, and then decided - along with another one of our riders - to do their own ride up Tunnel.  We also had another rider peel off due to an injury that was keeping him from feeling comfortable riding in the hills.  The rest of us travelled along through Berkeley where we picked up a couple more Club riders who were out earlier in the morning doing some serious training, and heading on up into the Berkeley hills.

The fog was looking pretty fierce up there as we climbed up Euclid but as we continued up Grizzly the sun burst through and we were able to enjoy a wonderfully cool but bright climb all the way to the Steam Trains.  There was some noise from a small contingent about how they were going to head off the front but they decided in the end to stay with the whole group as we travelled to Skyline, down Juaquim Miller, and onto home, getting everyone back onto the Island only a few minutes after 12 noon.

Good climbing, great weather, great friends, and a little bit of something for everyone - I think my first time as a ride leader was a success :)
