Cull Canyon B/C - Betsy

  • 11 Apr 2015
  • 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
  • Kaiser Alameda
Ride Leader: Betsy

Start:  Kaiser 8:00AM

Description: 2+/BC/50 "WET ROAD WILL CANCEL"

We'll ride out via Oyster Pt. to climb Fairmont, then we'll cross Castro Valley via Lake Chabot Rd., Somerset and Heyer to reach Cull Canyon. Cull Canyon itself is about 6 miles of steady, mostly-gentle climbing through bucolic farmland. After a rest stop at the top of the canyon, we'll return the way we came, except that we'll stay on Lake Chabot Rd all the way to San Leandro instead of descending Fairmont.

I've rated the route's climbing an overall 2+ because most of the gradients are less than 6%, but be aware that Fairmont hill and a couple of other (very short) climbs on the route get up to 8-9%. Overall elevation gain for the route is around 1600 feet.

Be sure to carry plenty of water - there is no refill at the top of the canyon.

Be sure to check the "Team Alameda Rides" forum for a cancellation notice before you come to Kaiser Sunday morning.
